Our First Review!

Our first review from Food Porn Daily!

Popina Provi

By Arthur McCritic

When I heard that there was a new “Roman style” food truck in town I was immediately intrigued. I decided to walk up the hill a sample some traditional Roman cuisine. Normally, I would try to give the chefs the benefit of the doubt, but this truck is a special case. The food here was god-awful. First of all, I am positive they did not use any sugar in any of their cooking. All the dishes on the menu were so bland, mostly consisting of different grains and poorly cooked meats covered in fish sauce. Honestly, it seemed like everything was covered in fish sauce! The wine had a strong taste of resin, and they tried offered me water to pour in the wine. Then I said I would prefer a beer, and they laughed and called me a barbarian heathen. I tried to spice up the food with some of their condiments but all they offered me was honey. The worst part of the whole experience was the scantily clad women dancing around me while I was trying to sample this trucks pathetic excuse for food. In short, do not waste your time or hard earned money at this truck, take your business elsewhere.

Clarification

To all of our loyal customers we’d like to announce that Popina ~ Provi will be
temporarily closed. Unfortunately we need to sort out some legal difficulties and
we hope to be serving up delicious Mediterranean fare again soon. We’d also like to
dispel any nasty rumors surrounding our closure like the one that we were involved
in supporting prostitutes. Simply untrue! Our goal is to recreate the spirit of the ancient Roman Popina, but absolutely not that aspect. We are just a food truck we promise!

Our Story

Popina Provi started out as most things do: just an idea. Three friends were sitting laughing over the dinner table discussing various aspects of roman dining when they realized there was a business to be made: one that not only delivers customers genuine roman fare but also allows them to take part in the novelty and character of food served as it was 2000 years ago. Popina Provi was born.

The process of creating the truck itself took time - the refurbishment of the truck itself required a great deal of expenditure and planning. On does not simple take a delivery truck and serve food out of it, rather one is required to strip said truck down and convert it into a mobile kitchen. This demands a great deal of care - one needs to make sure stoves, sinks, refrigerators, and electrical systems all function as one self-contained unit. Additionally, the city of Providence requires that any registered food truck tobe in line with all health and city planning regulations. The paperwork was immense and difficult, as was the set-up process of the actual truck.

Ultimately the finished result is only as good as the product it delivers and our product was food. We took great care to make sure our menu stayed authentic, while still remaining palatable to the average Brown student. We continually look to improve our brand, and are always experimenting with our flavor, menu, and design. Try it for yourself!

Popina Provi will be serving outside the Ratty today from 12pm-2pm. Further locations can be found on the post below.
